Backers of the proposed dams in Del Puerto Canyon have been emphasizing supposed benefits for non-potable water storage (ie. not directly for drinking), agricultural expansion, and the potential to sell water to some wildlife refuges in the valley to local and federal officials. But they have also downplayed their negative impacts - especially the loss of an existing recreation area that some were eyeing for inclusion in a potential park next to a community with identified greenspace access equity issues. As a result, several officials have chosen to publicly support efforts to raise money for this project, either through direct endorsement or funding packages that include it. There are also public figures who might be helpful allies in our fight to protect the canyon. Just as proponents have spread their views about DPR's possible benefits, those who support conserving Del Puerto Canyon should also reach out with arguments for why they should not support Del Puerto Reservoir.

What does Del Puerto Canyon mean to you? Why should the city keep the original plans for the proposed park that included areas that would be flooded and not let DPWD's activities change that? Why should business-driven interests to drive out existing natural history education and recreation and oppose community-driven conservation efforts not be funded or endorsed? Why should miles of public roadway not be diverted? Why should habitat for plants, animals, and Yokut artifact sites be protected? Whatever your reasons are for opposing this project, it's important that we make our voices heard as much as backers of the dams have!
